Cedar Hill Texas Culture

Just 25 minutes from Atlanta is Marietta, Georgia, the second largest city in the United States with a population of about 2.5 million people. The city is located on the edge of the Dallas - Fort Worth metro station and is home to the University of Texas at Dallas and the Texas A & M University campus. Hill Country in Dallas is considered the hilly country around Austin and San Antonio, as well as parts of Houston, Dallas, Austin, Houston's suburbs and even Dallas itself.

Cedar was in high demand for fence posts, and the mountain dwellers began to be motivated to cut down cedars at enormous prices and transport them in low-loaders to Texas and the Great Plains West, where they made a high dollar. Cedar Hill Pointe was built and opened in the early 20th century as a "bed-and-breakfast" and was nicknamed "Coal Town." Not unlike Okie - California crackers in Georgia, the term "cedar chopper" became a catchy pejorative word for the region's hills. In the late 19th century, cedar choppers burned so much cedar on the banks of the Guadalupe River that the city of San Antonio, Texas, nicknamed "Coal City," was nicknamed "Chocolate City" for its high-quality, low-cost wood, but by the early 20th century it was widely known as a coal-maker.

In 1890, Cedar Hill had 500 inhabitants, and in 1915 it had more than 1,000 inhabitants and a few hundred cedar harvesters. After Joe Pool Lake, built by the Army Corps of Engineers, opened nearby in 1989, the population began to grow dramatically, and two years later, the city's first high-rise, Cedar Hill Pointe, opened. In 1915, Cedar Hills had an average annual income of $1.5 million, or about $3,500 a year.

In January 1994, voters passed a special sales tax to finance economic development, and in September 1994, the Cedar Hill Economic Development Authority was created. An Economic and Development Advisory Committee was formed by residents who interviewed residents to see how they envisage the future of Cedar Hills.
