The 2020 high school football season continues this weekend, when 19 teams from the SBLive Power 25 will take the field at Cedar Hill High School for the first time in football history. The updated 2020 timetable, amended by the COVID 19 pandemic, has been published and is available for download here.
With the exception of Katy, Texas, every team represented in last week's Power 25 has won at least one of its first three games. Colquitt County (Norman Park, Ga.) improved 16 spots after a 40-10 defeat by Lowndes.
They will open the regular season with a game on November 10 against the winner of the title game Texas A & M-Southwestern Conference. They will play at a date to be set between November 13 and December 4, according to a school press release.
The game is considered a contest, not a defeat, in the rankings of districts 6-6A, the school's press release said. For Dallas - Area High School Football, originally scheduled to be played November 19-21 but now canceled, be sure to read the Dallas Morning News' Dallas High School Football Schedule. The game is the last game of the regular season for both teams and the first of a two-game series.
Westlake won the 6A Division 2 title a year ago at Texas and is expected to have another strong postseason in 2020. The aim is to get three more wins to take the state title and move into the state championship.
The Longhorns play the other top-ranked South West Lancaster county at LHS on September 25 and open the county competition on October 23, followed by a trip to Waxahachie on October 30. Return to schedule September 25 - 7: 30 Friday against Christian and CedarHill returns to schedule against Cedar Hills.
The Longhorns play the first game of the county competition against Arlington High School on September 25 at 7: 30 p.m., then play Waxahachie on October 30 at 6 p.m., Arlington on October 31 and Cedar Hill on October 29.

The Longhorns open their home schedule with a home game against Waxahachie on October 30 at 7: 30 p.m. and then host Arlington in a non-conference game on September 31. Tarrant County allows its schools to start athletics at the same time as Dallas County, but the pandemic means the Longhorns will not travel to Dallas to play the game outside the district, which was canceled last month. There will be no football games between TC and Cedar Hill in the next two years.
Mesquite and Rockwall were rescheduled for District 10 - 6A on November 25, but the game was invalidated because both programs were eliminated from the District 6 - 5A (Div. 4A) playoff competition. Districts 11 and 6A are already decided, and Cedar Hill will be the only team in the District to have a home-and-home series against any of the District's other schools. District 11 - 7A and 6a are already decided; Cedarhill's first home game against the Longhorns in a non-playoff game has been invalidated because the programs have all but eliminated themselves from the District 5- and 5a Division 1A playoffs.
Defeat to Thomas Aquinas was a big upset, but then to fall on American Heritage shows how good high school football is in Florida and how difficult it will be to rank teams in a shortened year. To put it bluntly, there is no ranking for Cedar Hill's first-ever playoff appearance in 2004, when DeSoto and Cedarhill both ranked second. After a 4-4 record in the first two years, it debuted with a 2-3 record and a loss to St. Thomas Aquinas in the first round of the playoffs.
Thomas Jefferson has only played in two of his seven games, but the players and coaches are grateful for the opportunity to have another season. Check back this week to see Cedar Hill's first playoff appearance since 2004 and learn more about the team's history.
McGuire was named Texas coach of the year in 2013 after guiding Cedar Hill to the Class 5A title. Sims' career is his first as head coach and his second as assistant coach. The 2014 Padilla poll was repeated and he was named coach of the year in 2013 for the first time in his career.
